It also means that if I want to come to my blog (which is a trip that is getting less frequent with every passing year), and I type in "The Iota Quota", it doesn't come up with the website link, but with an array of not very useful blog ranking sites, or very old mentions on other people's blogs, and so that's an extra few more seconds while I remember it's just quicker to start typing in the URL instead (yes, I know I could set up bookmarks and shortcuts and all those jazzy things, but... this is my way, these are my routines, leave me alone).
The point of why I'm telling you this background (are you still here?), is that this morning, I forgot not to bother with Norton, typed in "The Iota Quota" and it came up with a new thing. As usual, it ignored the obvious and didn't come up with a link to the blog address, but in a rather interesting tangent, high up the page was a list of what Iota rhymes with, and a link to a site called Rhyme Brain. This is what it said:
rota proto
Rota seemed a good start, proto less good (doesn't rhyme). I rather liked "anecdota" - yes, I'd like my blog to be considered full of anecdota (though don't we say "anecdotes"?). But "scrota"? Oh no. Is that the best Rhyme Brain could come up with?
Now, I don't usually blog about politics, but I will tell you this. I am an undecided vota. It all seems such a midden (to use a good Scots word). I can't get behind any of the main three parties, because ideologically they all seem to be going round in circles saying the same sorts of things and it all feels uninspiring. But I don't want to vote for any of the smaller parties because that seems a bit pointless. What to do?
.
Haha - I was feeling all superior after your Google/Norton thing, because I spend so much time setting up bookmarks and shortcuts, but then I realised I've had 7(!) tabs open for about three weeks, through several restarts of my computer, just in case I lost them. (Blushing now - I'd better go set up another folder for them.)
ReplyDeleteAbout the voting - I always put all the manifestos of the "likely" parties next to each other. It usually shows me the way to go. The situation is quite different here, though - in Flanders there is much more choice. We always have a "voting test" online as well that shows you what you should vote and why. It's very useful. I'm an issues girl. :-)
Ugh don't talk to me about politics. We have just been through local elections here (Alderman) and it was so dirty it made me despair. My friend was running against the incumbent and tried to run a very positive campaign. She was lambasted from the very start, and even accused of not paying her property taxes (proven not to be true). Nevertheless, the last flyer we got from the incumbent was all about how vicious and negative my friend had been. My jaw just hit the floor. It's a nasty business. (Rant over.)
ReplyDeleteWe've been getting political spam pushed through the letterbox every single day in the last few weeks, and I've been trying to educate myself about the various parties and their platforms (even if I can't vote, I think it's good to be informed.) Why have you switched to Norton, though? Have you been having security problems?
ReplyDeleteI think we had Bulldog for a set length of time, and then that expired and we went over to Norton. Don't really know why (I leave Husband to sort out that side of things). Good question, though.
DeleteI think the best way to get to your blog would just be to bookmark it in your browser?
ReplyDeleteNorton sounds like a pain.
I have decided my vota, but I must admit, none of them are very convincing this time around. Or I'm wondering if that's just a sign of getting older - you feel you've heard if all before and none of it every comes true.
I have found bookmarks are frustrating on a shared family computer. I just get used to whereabouts on the list my blog is, and then then next time I open up the list, it's in a different place, because several Football Premiership websites and a couple of philosophy discussion forums have been added. So I found it quicker just to start typing www.blogiot... or however much of the URL address is needed before the full name comes up in the list. The other issues is that I am a very quick typist, and can type very much quicker than I can mouse navigate and click!
DeleteI wish I knew - feel incredibly disengaged with the election and then despise myself for not caring because it IS important and I called a daughter after a suffragette but I can't feel enthusiastic about any of them
ReplyDeleteMy google homepage doesn't work at all at the moment so I can't even type into the search box! I've got Norton too but I've disabled the search function because it was driving me crazy - between a rock and a hard place but I prefer Google - sorry Norton! Love the diversions that you get on the web though :)
